Finnish band releases Vesna Vulović single

Wednesday, February 5, 2015

The four-piece Finnish rock band Van Dammes have released a new single dedicated to the survivor of flight JU367 and Yugoslav national heroine Vesna Vulović. Entitled “Vesna (Flash in the Night)” the song is dedicated to the former JAT Yugoslav Airlines crew member who was the sole survivor of flight JU367 after a bomb exploded on board the DC-9 aircraft at 33.000 feet on January 26, 1970. Ms. Vulović holds the world record for the highest fall without a parachute. Some of the lyrics featured in Van Dammes’ song include “SOS JAT 367” and “Flash in the night, we fell from the sky”.

  1. It's worth mentioning that there's dispute over whether the airline crashed because of a bomb or an accidental firing of a missle during Czechoslovakian military mercerizes.

It's also worth mentioning there was no dispute for decades. Croatian terrorists were active with numerous other terrorist acts committed during that period but over recent years there have been efforts to deal with unpleasant past by injecting new stories with the goal of creating uncertainty and distracting from facts.

    2. It also worth mentioning that the Udba (the then Yugoslav secret service) was highly active with a campaign to discredit Croatians who where anti Yugoslav all over the world. One of the most famous incidents in Australia of this is of the so called 'Croatian six', five of which spent at least 10 years in Jail after being set up by both the Udba and corrupt Australian police. The sixth was later found out to be an agent of the Udba well after the event and admitted to the Australian 4 corners program of the setup.

There is an attempt to have the convictions overturned after which it has been reported in an Australian newspaper that Russell Crowe has hinted at making a movie of this.

A Yugoslav travel agency in Sydney also blew up around this time injuring 16 and was quickly blamed on Croatians. The most likely cause was a gas leak. No one was arrested and a later inquiry into the police investigation reveled that the police hardly investigate at all.

In saying that, there were definitely terrorist acts including bombings perpetrated by Croatians around the world.

The only one which is 100% confirmed and was actually admitted and claimed by Croatians resulting in a death outside of the former Yugoslavia was the New York incident where a police officer was killed when attempting to defuse the bomb left by a Croatian separatist at Kennedy airport.

Now, when it comes to flight JU367 and what happened, there are actually a few different theories including that the plane was lost and some witnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying around at low level under low cloud before hitting a mountain. And there is the infamous accidental or deliberate shot down by either Czechoslovak air deference or intercepted then shot down at low level.

We know the aircraft was off course.
We know the only evidence of a bomb was the face of an alarm clock.
We know an anonymous caller in Stockholm (I believe from memory) made a claim of responsibility saying that he was a Croatia Ustasa.
We know no one was ever arrested or charged. and that Croatian Ustasa were immediately blamed.

For me I have no problem accepting that a bomb planted by Croatian terrorist brought down JU367 if the evidence is there to prove it. I am old enough to know that that you can't paint everyone with the same brush and that history has proven that people of all race, religion and creed are capable of the most despicable atrocities. But the evidence is simple not there that a bomb on board JU367 caused it to crash!

Link to the Australian 4 corners program of the Croatian 6 and a more recent summery if anyone is interested.

The detective in the second video is Rodger Rogerson. One of Sydney most corrupt police officers and has spent most of the last 30 years in Jail. Back in jail again for a recent murder.

Ex Yu sorry about the rant.

Others, I know I will upset some and I am happy to read other commentators but I will respond to avoid a war of worlds.

Doot, this is exactly what was mentioned in 12:45 comment. You can research other events like assassination of ambassador Vladimir Rolovic in Sweden or bombing of Belgrade cinema on 13 oct 1968. When put together it paints a dark picture no whitewashing can change.

    2. Doot,

All theories of JU367 being at low level, shot down by other aircraft, or shot by surface to air missiles can be ignored because the plane was in an area observed by West German radar.

Even if Czechoslovakia could have covered up this incident, there is no chance the west would have kept silent.
